Enlightened entrepreneurs, and successful companies, know that a secret to success is to have a ‘no matter what’ attitude.
We look for opportunities to move forward, in spite of what others may think. Then we go for it.
Here are some of my ‘glass half full’ tips on how to succeed –no matter what!
• Stay away from negative people and conversations.
• Admit that it’s too easy to slip into the blaming game and/or the poor me stories.
• Recognize that complaining has little to no value and is a huge time and energy waster.
• Understand that not everyone wants to take responsibility for how they create, sabotage and/or miss opportunities in their lives, careers or business.
• Know that even if the economy is challenged, agreeing with others can sabotage your success.
• Retreat if you find yourself sucked into the latest doom and gloom report and/or thinking thoughts like, “Business is slow” Or “You can’t charge what you used to”.
• Reframe any negative thoughts with positive solution oriented language and goals.
• Recognize that you can’t fix behavior or habits that you don’t acknowledge.
• Accept that it requires courage to self-critique your current responses to ‘potential’ problems or set-backs.
• Acknowledge that it can take a high level of self-responsibility to change what you don’t like.

After having owned three businesses, during three recessions, my mantra has been, “I’ll figure this out!”
And you know what?
I always do figure it out!
Love this post thanks Kelly. These are all great points! I particularily loved “check in and get real with yourself”. I think that is something that we can all take some real value from. Thank you.
Hi Tim,
Yes, when we check-in and get real with ourselves we also get out of our own way.
That’s when the magic really happens!
Statistics do NOT apply to you!
You are either 100% employed, or you are 100% un-employed.
You are either having your best year yet, or you are not.
You have a choice, too.
Every economy has successful people.
Every economy has un-successful people.
You only have NOW. So, what will you make of it?
That’s all that really matters to YOU anyway.
And then, magically, YOU shift the economy.
Love your life UP!

Hello Dianna aka The Irreverent Sales Girl,
You make great points. Our attitude really does determine the outcome.
Even if the circumstances appear to suck, we get to decide how we’ll respond.
I’ve trained myself to observe how I feel.
If I catch myself feeling down and/or being negative I ask myself a simple question. “How long do you want to feel this way?”
My response is always the same. “I want to feel better right NOW!”
Instead of waiting for circumstance to change, I find something to feel good about right NOW.
Sometimes it’s tougher to do than other times.
In those moments I ask myself, “What’s the positive growth that I’m getting from this situation?”
The answer(s) always shifts me back to the reality that I’m responsible for my happiness and how I perceive things.
Knowing that I/we are in charge of our attitudes is very empowering.
By shifting my thoughts, life is better! Outcomes do shift! I get to create the life I want right now, instead of waiting for some future event! All good to me!
Hey Kelly,
I love your point about complaining being a time waster. Absolutely 100% true! Thanks for sharing such valuable insight.
Hi Andrea,
Yes, complaining is a major time waster. In business it’s also a recipe for business disaster.
I’m going to write a blog post about the downside of complaining in business.
When I do business growth coaching and/or consulting with folks, red flags come up when they complain about things like the economy to explain why a campaign or sale didn’t work well. Doing this avoids seeing the real problems, which can often be corrected. Um, it looks like I’m writing the post already!
Thanks for your feedback!
These are great tips to always remember! The one that I live by is always be positive! Don’t allow any negative thing come in your way…if it does, fix it!
Hi Wade,
I agree, being positive really is something to live by. This is especially true when the glass looks half empty. One negative thought can lead to another. What a cesspool.
It’s in those moments we get to make a powerful choice. Intentionally change the thought to a positive one, which in turn can instantly change the outcome.
Of course, if all else fails. Just call it a day and eat a lot of chocolate!
